CHAPTER-4 ORDINAL NUMBERS
An Ordinal Number is a number that tells the position of someone or something, such as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th etc. Most ordinal numbers end with "th" except for one ⇒ first (1st), two ⇒ second (2nd) and three ⇒ third (3rd).

Chapter-4 Comparing Numbers
To compare two numbers means to find whether;-         
1) One number is greater than another number. (>)
2) One number is less than another number. (<)
3) One number is equal to another number. (=)
If the number on the left is greater than the number on the right, we put the (greater than) '>' sign.       
If the number on the left is smaller than the number on the right, we put the (less than) '<' sign.       

If both the numbers are same, we then put the (equal to) '=' sign.

Before Numbers
Before number -  means the predecessor which is 1 less or 1 smaller than the given number. A number which comes before any number is called its predecessor.
For example since 7 comes before 8, hence 7 is the predecessor of 8 (as shown below).

An In between number lies in the middle of two numbers. The middle number is one more than the previous number and one less than the next number. For example: 5 lies in between 4 and 6. Here, 5 is one more than 4, but one less than 6 (as shown below).

TENS AND ONES
Tens: 10 Ones makes 1 ten. Like, 
10 blocks = 1 ten
Understand the following-
a) 10 can be thought of as a bundle of 10 ones called '1 Ten'.
b) The numbers from 11 to 19 are composed of 1 Ten and and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine ones.
c) The numbers 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 are referred to as one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine tens (and 0 ones).


Example 1
i) 13 Ones = 10 Ones + 3 Ones
=  1 Ten and 3 Ones

ii) 27 Ones = 20 Ones + 7 Ones

= 2 Tens and 7 Ones

PLACE VALUE

Place Value: Place value can be defined as the value represented by a digit in a number on the basis of its position in that number.

In 13548, 
1 is in ten thousands place and its place value is 10,000,
3 is in thousands place and its place value is 3,000,
5 is in hundreds place and its place value is 500,
4 is in tens place and its place value is 40,
8 is in ones place and its place value is 8.

EXPANDED FORM (Long Form)
Expanded form of a number can be obtained by breaking it and using the place value of digits in the number.

EXAMPLE 1: write the expanded form of number 48.
              8 ones (8 x 1 = 8)
              4 tens (4 x 10 = 40)
Expanded form of number 48 = 40 + 8
