1. Dorothy Meets the Scarecrow
Introduction
Today we are  going to study the very first chapter of English Prose for Class III . The chapter's name is Dorothy Meets the Scarecrow. So,  first of all, let us read the summary of this chapter.

 Summary :
This chapter is about a girl named Dorothy. She is on her way to meet the great OZ to ask him to send her back home to Kansas. On the way she meets a Scarecrow who was very friendly to her. So Dorothy told the Scarecrow of her journey and why she was going to meet the great OZ. Now the Scarecrow also wanted to accompany her as he wanted to ask the great OZ for a brain for himself. So now begins the journey of Dorothy and the Scarecrow.
Now let's read the Chapter (Pg-11)below :
Chapter Starter(part I)
Dorothy walked along the road. It was made of yellow bricks.
When she had gone some miles she needed to rest. She climbed to the top of the fence beside the road and sat down. Her dog, Toto, was also tired. He lay down on the ground by the fence. There was a large cornfield on the other side of the fence and in the field there was a Scarecrow.

(Dorothy, her dog Toto, and the Scarecrow)

Dorothy gazed at the Scarecrow. Its head was a small sack stuffed with straw. Its face was painted on the sack. It had an old, pointed blue hat on its head. On its body it wore a blue suit of faded clothes which had also been stuffed with straw. On the feet were some old boots. The Scarecrow was tied to a tall pole. It was there to scare the birds and stop them from eating the ripe corn.

While Dorothy was looking at the painted face of the Scarecrow, she was surprised to see one of the eyes slowly wink at her. She thought she must have imagined it. Then the Scarecrow nodded its head to her in a friendly way. Dorothy climbed down from the fence and walked up to it. Toto ran around the pole and barked.

'Good day,' said the Scarecrow.

1. Dorothy Meets the Scarecrow
Continuation: Read the Chapter
'You didn't just speak,  did you? ' asked the girl, in wonder.
'Certainly, ' answered the Scarecrow. 'How do you do? '
'I'm pretty well, thank you, ' replied Dorothy politely. 'How do you do? '
I'm bored, ' said the Scarecrow, 'it is very dull being stuck up here night and day to scare away crows. '
Can't you get down? ' asked Dorothy.
'No. This pole is stuck up my back. Please help me get down. '
Dorothy reached up both arms and lifted the Scarecrow off the pole. He was quite light because he was only stuffed with straw. She set him down to the ground.

'Thank you very much, ' said the Scarecrow. 'I feel much better. '
Dorothy was so surprised to hear a straw man speak.
The Scarecrow stretched and yawned. 'Who are you? ' asked the Scarecrow. 'And where are you going? '
'My name is Dorothy, 'said the girl, 'and I am going to the Emerald City. I'm going to ask the Great Oz to send me back home to Kansas.
Where is the Emerald City? ' said the Scarecrow. 'And who is Oz? '
'Why, don't you know? '
She replied, in surprise.
'No, indeed. I don't know anything. You see, I am stuffed with straw, So I have no brains at all, ' he answered sadly.
'Oh, 'said Dorothy, 'I'm sorry for you. '
'Do you think, 'he asked, if I go to the Emerald City with you, that Oz would give me some brains? '
'I don't know, ' she replied, 'Come to the Emerald City with me and Toto. You can ask the Great Oz for a brain. '
'What if he doesn't give me one? '
'You should try anyway, ' said Dorothy. 'You have nothing to lose. '
'That is true, 'said the Scarecrow. 'You see, I don't mind my legs and arms and body being stuffed, because I cannot get hurt. If anyone treads on my toes or sticks a pin into me, it doesn't matter because I can't feel it. '
Dorothy listened carefully and nodded. She was amazed to see the Scarecrow walking and talking.
'But I do not want people to call me a fool, and if my head stays stuffed with straw instead of with brains, as yours is, how am I ever  to know anything?
'I understand how you feel, ' said the little girl, who was truly sorry for him. 'If you will come with me, I'll ask Oz to do all he can for you. '
'Thank you, ' he answered gratefully.
Dorothy, Toto and the Scarecrow walked to the fence. They climbed over it and started walking along the yellow brick road towards the Emerald City.
Toto sniffed around the straw man. He growled as if he suspected there might be a nest of rats in the straw. He was behaving in an unfriendly way because he did not know the Scarecrow.
'Don't mind Toto, ' said Dorothy to her new friend. 'He never bites. '
'Oh, I'm not afraid, 'replied the Scarecrow. 'He can't hurt the straw. '
'Toto, be nice! ' said Dorothy to her dog and bent down to pat him. Then she picked up her basket and they began walking again.
'Do let me carry that basket for you. I shall not mind it, for I can't get tired, ' said the Scarecrow.

'I'll tell you a secret, 'he continued, as he walked along. 'There is only one thing in the world I'm afraid of. '
'What is that? ' asked Dorothy. 'Is it the  farmer who made you? '
'No, 'answered the Scarecrow;
'It's a lighted match. '

Ch: 3 My Early Home
Introduction:
Today we are  going to study the third chapter of English Prose for Class III . The chapter's name is My Early Home. So, first of all, let us read the summary of this chapter.
Synopsis:
The narrator, later to be named Black Beauty, a horse, describes his earliest memories. He lives in an idyllic, pastoral environment with his mother, Duchess. The horses are well cared for, and Black  Beauty runs and plays in a pasture with other colts. Sometimes, play gets a bit rough, but his mother encourages him to be well behaved. His lineage of horse ancestors was well respected, she tells him. She hopes he "will never learn bad ways" and do his "work with a good will." The only negative Black Beauty describes is Dick, the ploughboy who throws stones at the colts. But the master catches and fires him, so the horses are safe and remain well treated.
Chapter:
The first place that I can well remember was a large pleasant meadow with a pond of clear water in it. Some shady trees leaned over it, and rushes and water lilies grew at the deep end. Over the hedge on one side we looked into a ploughed field, and on the other we looked over a gate at our master's house, which stood by the roadside; at the top of the meadow was a grove of fir trees, and at the bottom a running brook overhung by a steep bank
While I was young I lived upon my mother's milk, as I could not eat grass. In the daytime I ran by her side, and at night I lay down close by her. When it was hot we used to stand by the pond in the shade of the trees, and when it was cold we had a nice warm shed near the grove. As soon as I was old enough to eat grass my mother used to go out to work in the daytime, and come back in the evening.

 Continuation (Read the chapter) :
There were six young colts in the meadow besides me; they were older than I was; some were nearly as large as grown-up horses. I used to run with them, and had great fun; we used to gallop all together round and round the field as hard as we could go. Sometimes we had rather rough play, for they would frequently bite and kick as well as gallop.
One day, when there was a good deal of kicking, my mother whined to me to come to her, and then she said: 'I wish you to pay attention to what I am going to say to you. The colts who live here are very good colts, but they are cart-horse colts, and of course they have not learned manners. You have been well-bred and well-born; your father has a great name in these parts, your grandfather won the cup two years at the Newmarket races; your grandmother had the sweetest temper of any horse I ever know, and I think you have never seen me kick or bite. I hope you will grow up gentle and good, and never learn bad ways; do your work with a good will, lift your feet up well when you trot, and never bite or kick even in play.'
I have never forgotten my mother's advice; I knew she was a wise old horse, and our master thought a great deal of her. Her name was Duchess, but he often called her Pet.

Our master was a good, kind man. He gave us good food, good lodging, and kind words; he spoke as kindly to us as he did to his little children.
We were all fond of him, and my mother loved him very much. When she saw him at the gate she would neigh with joy, and trot up to him. He would pat and stroke her and say, 'Well, old Pet, and how is your little Darkie?' I was dull black, so he called me Darkie; then he would give me a piece of bread, which was very good, and sometimes he brought a carrot for my mother. All the horses would come to him, but I think we were his favourites.
My mother always took him to the town on a market day in a light gig.

 Continuation (Read the chapter) :
There was a ploughboy, Dick, who sometimes came into our field to pluck blackberries from the hedge. When he had eaten all he wanted, he would have what he called fun with colts, throwing stones and sticks at them to make them gallop.
We did not much mind him for we could gallop off; but sometimes a stone would hit and hurt us.
One day he was at this game, and did not know that the master was in the next field; but he was there, watching what was going on; over the hedge he jumped in a snap, and catching Dick by the arm, he gave him such a box on the ear as made him roar with pain and surprise.
As soon as we saw the master we trotted up nearer to see what went on. 'Bad boy! ' he said, 'bad boy! to chase the colts.
This is not the first time, nor the second, but it shall be the last. There -take your money and go home; I shall not want you on my farm again. '
So we never saw Dick any more. Old Daniel, the man who looked after the horses, was just as gentle as our master, so we were well off.

CURSIVE WRITING
Introduction:
Hello students, just like printing, cursive writing is typically not presented in alphabetical order. We've chosen to present the letters in groups that are formed in a similar manner.
• The worksheets are built on one another so you will want to begin with the letter a and add letters in the order listed.
• It is important to build when it comes to handwriting as the key difference between cursive writing and printing is that the letters flow together.

Explanation :
We will learn to write cursive writing by dividing the 26 alphabets into 5 parts.
1. Rockin' Round letters : a d g q c
2. Climb 'n' Slide letters : i u w t
3. Loopy letters : e l h k b f j
4. Lumpy letters : n m v x
5. Mix 'n' Match : p r s o y z
