The old man asked a great tree in the forest for help. But the tree laughed.

'You are lucky! said the tree. People eat my leaves and cut my branches
Go away. '

' How did you get into the trap in the beginning? ' he asked the tiger.

' Like this, ' replied the tiger.

INTRODUCTIONThe main characters are a mouse and an elephant. It is a very interesting story. Now read the story carefully and try to understand it.
Once upon a time there was a king who lived in a fine stone palace. After many years the king grew old and died. Everyone left the palace. Slowly the walls fell down, and soon only the floors were left.

Now,in the cracks of the floors lived hundreds of mice. They lived with their sons and grandsons, their grandfather's and their grandmother's, and they were all very comfortable. They played games and had festivals and weddings, dramas and feasts. They were all very happy.

Near this palace was a large lake. One day in the hot weather, the elephant-king came to drink water with his herd. The whole herd walked all over the floors of the palace. They killed many of the mice.
The mice were very sad. They held a meeting. 'These elephants will kill us all!' they cried. 'What shall we do?

Some of the mice went to the elephants. They said, 'O friends, we live under the palace floorsIf you walk over the floors on the way to the lake, you will kill us all. Please go along another path. One day we may help you.'

The elephant-king and his herd listened to the to mice. At last they agreed to use another path.

Now, one day the  elephant-king and his herd were trapped in the forest by some Hunters. They were tied up with ropes. Luckily, one of the elephants was not trapped. He ran through the forest and called the mice. Hundreds of them came to help the elephants. They bit the ropes and at last the elephants were free.

The elephants thanked the mice, and they remembered the old saying: 'Make friendsalways make friends, however strong or weak.'

I Wonder
I wonder why the grass is green,
And why the wind is never seen?

Who taught the birds to build a nest,
And told the trees to take a rest?

O, when the moon is not quite round,
Where can the missing bit be found?

Who lights the stars, when they blow out,
And makes the lightning flash about?

Who paints the rainbow in the sky,
And hangs the fluffy clouds so high?

Why is it now, do you suppose,
That Dad won't tell me, if he knows?

We have learnt that one of the things that a verb tells us is what somebody or something does or has done and when that something is done or has done. In other words, a verb not only tells us about an action, it also tells us about the time of that action: that is something that happens now or that is something that has already happened in the past. There are mainly three types of tenses. But we will study two tenses among three. They are :
1) Present tense
2) Past tense
3) Future tense

TENSE
Definition :The tense of a verb shows the time when an action is Or was done.

PRESENT TENSE

2) To show that a verb that ends in -y is in the present tense, we either use the verb as it is or usually drop the final-y and add -ies to the verb.
I cry .
We cry.
You cry.
He/ She /It cries.
They cry.
I try.
We try.

PAST TENSE
1) To form the past tense of a verb, we usually add -ed to the verb.
Examples
Call+   -ed
= Called
Walk +-ed

Show+ -ed

2) The last letter of some verbs are doubled when -ed is added to them.
Examples
Knit+   -ed
=  Knitted
shop+-ed
= Shopped
fan + -ed
= Fanned
3) If the verb ends in -e, we just add -d to it to form the past tense:

Now, read the poem carefully and try to understand it.
Trees are lovely, brown and green,
With trunk, stems, leaves and flowers;_
Some are thick, and some are lean,
Most keep us dry in showers.

They give us shade from the sun,

They're home to many creatures.
In their branches we have fun,
Hiding from all our teachers.

Keep trees safe, they help our world.
Don't chop them all down... Oh, please!
Where, in nests, would birds lie curled,
If we had no lovely trees?
